IJIS Institute Executive Director Appointed to National Academy of Sciences Committee

Ashburn, VA, April 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The executive director of the IJIS Institute, Paul Wormeli, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Committee on Law and Justice (CLAJ) of the National Academy of Sciences. The IJIS Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to merging the resources of industry with the interests of government to improve the systems that provide critical information to justice, public safety, and homeland security professionals.

“It is my hope,” said Mr. Wormeli, “that this appointment will help raise the visibility of information sharing and interoperability topics to the distinguished membership of the committee and the constituencies they represent.”

The CLAJ was established in 1975. It was created to provide a more scientific understanding of issues pertaining to crime and justice, and its activities today include identifying new areas of research and participating in resolving scientific controversies. Mr. Wormeli joins a committee membership representing a wide variety and depth of expertise in criminology, criminal justice, law, public policy and sociology among others.

Mr. Wormeli has been recognized, on numerous occasions, for his years of dedication and service to justice, public safety, and homeland security. He served as the first national project director of Project SEARCH, and was subsequently appointed by President Ford as Deputy Administrator of the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration in December, 1975. Additionally, Mr. Wormeli helped design the first mobile computing equipment sold in this country to law enforcement agencies, and has served as an advisor to the White House on security and privacy.
