Made in New England Products Sought for First Seacoast Public Market

Tastes of New England prepares to debut Seacoast, New Hampshire’s first public market in Portsmouth, seeks manufacturers of fine gifts, food and art that is made in New England to participate.

Durham, NH, April 22, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Do you make a high quality product that is made in New England and are struggling for an affordable way to promote or sell your goods in this economy?

Tastes of New England (http://www.tastesofnewengland.com), a retailer, distributor and promoter of New England-made products, today announced they are seeking local manufacturers of food, gifts and art to sell their wares at Seacoast, New Hampshire’s first-ever public market. The Public Market is a new, affordable vehicle for makers of New England made products to sell their wares to locals and tourists this summer.

Whether an individual is in need of a quick meal, groceries or a gift, they will be able to find it at the Public Market, which starts on Saturday, June 6, 2009. Three additional June and August dates are planned--June 27, August 1 and August 29. All events will take place from 10 am – 3 pm at the Frank Jones Center in Portsmouth, NH.

An alternative to Farmer’s Markets who limit the number of vendors and are subject to bad weather, Public Markets have long been a vehicle for purveying locally made goods. Similar markets, such as the Public Market House in Portland, ME and the Boston Public Market, have enjoyed long-term success for vendors and buyers and now Tastes of New England is bringing this concept to Southern New Hampshire.

“Many of the companies we distribute for have tried to get into the local farmer’s markets to no avail and people today want locally produced products,” said Mary Reed, owner of Tastes of New England. “We are not attempting to compete with the local farmer’s markets, but rather to enhance the Saturday shopping experience of consumers. As such, we will be doing some cross-promotion with other Saturday markets. This is a win/win for everyone and will make the community more aware of all the incredible choices they have to buy local.”

The cost to participate on all four dates is $100. The deadline for space reservations is May 19, 2009 and is first come, first serve. Specialty, gourmet, and prepared food vendors must be appropriately licensed and will need to apply for a temporary permit with the City of Portsmouth.

The Frank Jones Center is located at 400 Route One Bypass in Portsmouth. To apply or for more information, contact Tastes of New England at (603) 762-4155 or via email at info@tastesofnewengland.com.
