Wisdom and Eloquence by Dr. Robert Littlejohn Receives Nomination for 2009 Lilly Fellows Award

Raleigh, NC, April 24, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Trinity Academy of Raleigh (www.trinityacademy.com) is pleased to announce that Wisdom and Eloquence: A Christian Paradigm for Classical Learning, a book co-authored by Dr. Robert Littlejohn, head of school, has been nominated for the 2009 Lilly Fellows Program Book Award. The award honors academic works that demonstrate faith and learning in the Christian intellectual tradition, teaching and scholarship. A prize of $3,000 will be awarded at the Lilly Fellows Program National Conference, Oct. 2 – 4, 2009 at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Wisdom and Eloquence, published in 2006 by Crossway Books, is a treatise on the classical liberal arts and sciences for the K-12 school. It identifies classical learning as the application of the liberal arts and sciences in “communities of faith and learning.” In 2007, Wisdom and Eloquence received a Metro Bravo Award from Metro Magazine in the category of best nonfiction book.

As a Ph.D. biologist, Dr. Littlejohn has co-authored two college biology laboratory texts, Exploring the Living World: Laboratory Studies in Biology Fifth Edition (1990) and General Biology: Laboratory Studies in Biology (2001). He has published more than 25 reports of original research in the fields of ecology, plant physiology, biochemistry and science educational theory since 1980. He is co-author of Wisdom and Eloquence: A Christian Paradigm for Classical Learning (2006), a treatise on Christian education that he wrote with Charles T. Evans, Executive Consultant with Paideia, Inc. (www.paideia-inc.com). Both authors are national speakers and consultants to colleges and schools across the nation.

“I am honored to have Wisdom and Eloquence receive such a distinguished nomination,” said Littlejohn. “My co-author, Charles Evans, and I believe our book is the expression of a hope-filled goal that the effort today’s educators pour into teaching and learning would not only benefit individuals, but would help society toward more grace and civility.”

"Evans and Littlejohn have written a remarkable treatise on education – a readable, practical, and encouraging discourse that demystifies and clarifies the purpose of a liberal education," said D. Bruce Lockerbie, chairman of Paideia, Inc. and author of A Christian Paideia: The Habitual Vision of Greatness.
