Green Screen Sharing Supporting Earth Day

With Earth Day 2009 in full swing, people and organizations are promoting a healthier planet via thousands of environmentally-friendly activities, one of which includes the use of screen sharing technology. By reducing travel time and face-to-face meetings, screen sharing is an example of Green IT that allows people to organize meetings over the Web, and hence significantly reduce CO2 gas emissions.

Mannheim, Germany, April 24, 2009 --(PR.com)-- This week as over a billion people worldwide come together to protect the environment in celebration of Earth Day, supporters are finding a way to reduce CO2 gas emissions via an Internet software solution. By employing screen sharing technology, people are able to reduce the need to travel for meetings and consequently contribute significantly to the reduction of CO2 gas emissions.

While screen sharing technology is praised for making the completion of everyday business and personal tasks easier and quicker, it is still unknown to many that such a simple solution carries great benefits for the environment. By organizing business and private meetings to be held live over the Web, the need to travel for a face-to-face meeting is radically diminished or even eradicated. The obvious result of such technology is a reduction in CO2 gas emissions and lower levels of air pollution.

Such reductions of CO2 gas emissions can quickly and easily be reached via screen sharing meetings: Consider a team of five who meet monthly and each make a return trip of 200km, on average, on each occasion in order to attend the meetings. After a year this one group could produce up to 1.56 tonnes of CO2 gas emissions due to the travel involved.

On top of the environmental benefits brought by screen sharing comes the fact that such technology is so easy for any supporter to get started. Using screen sharing software to support the environment, simply involves organizing an online meeting from a computer desktop. Participants can join the screen sharing meeting and view all screen content and actions from the presenter's computer in real-time over the Web, while concurrently reducing travel time and CO2 gas emissions.

To get involved and join the “Green Screen Sharing” cause on Earth Day, a screen sharing program is provided at no cost by Mikogo, a non-profit software application for web conferencing and online meetings. Mikogo (http://www.mikogo.com) aims to dramatically increase the number of screen sharing meetings in the spirit of Earth Day and therefore reduce global CO2 gas emissions.

Those who are interested in Green Screen Sharing or in showing their support for the reduction of CO2 gas emissions via such technology, can do so on the Earth Day Event Registry: http://earthday.net/node/15763
