Wave of Entrepreneurialism Caused by Recent Redundancies Causes Sharp Increase in Used Van Sales as New Business Owners Buy Used Commercial Vehicles

Anchor Vans, Berkshire’s leading used van dealership, has announced a sharp increase in the sale of large used vans due to increased demand from entrepreneurial new business owners.

Reading, United Kingdom, May 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Anchor Vans, one of the UK's leading used van vendors, reports a sharp increase in the sales of used vans as a wave of entrepreneurialism sweeps the UK. Following rounds of recent redundancies, the sale of large 4 metre vans has increased dramatically as people are choosing to start their own businesses, rather than seek work in the industry that has made them redundant. Among the most popular choices of used van are the Mercedes Sprinter van, Ford's Transit Jumbo van and the Iveco Jumbo van. For more information call 0118 9710 230 or go to www.anchorvans.co.uk.

"We've seen a dramatic rise in the number of large used vans being sold over the last 3 months," commented Simon Joyce, Sales Director of Anchor Vans. "It's great to see how positive people are being after experiencing redundancy. Instead of looking for jobs that are thin on the ground, they're taking the plunge and working for themselves. We've heard from other business sectors that this recession is different because of Britain's entrepreneurial spirit – and our used van sales are certainly backing that up with solid evidence. Perhaps it's because of programs like The Apprentice and Dragon's Den," Simon speculated. "Or simply the fact that people have lost faith in big businesses being able to support them reliably. But whatever the reasons, there's no denying that there are more businesses starting up now."

When asked whether certain types of businesses are represented more than others, Simon said; "We're selling vans to quite a few couriers and also mobile mechanics. The couriers are in a great position as they just need a van and that's it, they can start working again without having to depend upon the success of an employer's business that's beyond their control. As for the mobile mechanics, they're typically highly skilled people who haven't necessarily lost their jobs; they just want the flexibility of working for themselves. That's why we're seeing the larger 4 metre vans sell so quickly," he added. "They're needed to be able to contain lots of deliveries and lots of tools. Obviously we're always pleased when used van sales are up, but it's even better when the reason why is so positive."
