The faltering economy has taken a hit on many LA theatres, local artists, producers, managers, and theatre companies. It has sent many of them migrating to “Artist Magnet” (AM) for relief. And relief is what they get. AM is an online social network designed exclusively for theatre artists, allowing theatres and members to create profiles, upload pictures and videos, share events and blogs, and even link to their Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter accounts. In addition, AM hosts monthly networking parties where artists can get together with theatre directors and producers, mingle, share business cards, show information and most importantly, try to talk their way into an audition. The networking events are held nation wide with plans for monthly events held worldwide.

The first AM theater networking event in April 2009 had similar parties going on in NY and other national locations. In addition AM sponsored a global Online chat networking party on it’s website. Artists and theatres are drawn to AM’s exclusive dedication to all things theatre, its weekly online Radio Show Sponsored by Wabi Sabi Productions Inc a 501 (c) 3 Not For Profit, which features Radio Plays, notable artists, contest winners, and members of AM being interviewed and often performing. Hosted by Wabi Sabi Production's Producer Emmitt Thrower. AM maintains group pages, discussions and of course the fact that it’s free to join and use.

When the global economy collapsed last fall, grants and funding for theatres dried up as box-office sales dwindled, and theatres struggled to survive. Theater artists were faced with an increasingly shrinking job market. Artist Magnet’s vision to connect theater artists worldwide in one central online location was a welcomed ray of hope. Artist Magnet’s support website was launched in early 2009. Its mission is to help artists to find jobs in theater, give clients access to writers, producers and directors in a way that previously was unavailable to most of them. AM’s goal is to meet those artist challenges head on.

The support website was launched on Ning networks as the funding campaign for the state of the art Artistmagnet.com phase one development was initiated. The fundraising and membership drives continue. Investors, sponsors and other interested parties are still sought and should contact the PR Director for further info on how they can participate.

The local theatre community will find AM a great meeting place for collaborations and job opportunities. Members worldwide are joining this fast growing, artist friendly, theater networking community. AM maintains profiles of over 1,400 members including over100 theatres in LA and across the US representing more than 50 countries worldwide. AM’s new hyperlinking website is expected to launch later this year. In early May 2009 Artist Magnet moved from its Ning domain and now resides on the Artist Magnet Domain.
