Aberdeen, NC, May 20, 2009 --(PR.com
)-- For women who want to build a village, but don’t know where to start, Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills and Lowe’s have the answer. As the 2009 underwriter for Habitat for Humanity International’s Women Build program, Lowe’s is hosting how-to clinics May 23rd and May 30th at its Southern Pines store to help prepare women volunteers to build a Sandhills-area house this fall.
The free clinics not only teach women home construction basics, they provide extensive hands-on opportunities to practice these new skills. The two clinics will help educate the volunteers on basic construction and tool safety techniques, enabling them to be confident and effective in their volunteer efforts with Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills. Among other things, women will have the opportunity to practice using power tools, framing walls and helping build a playhouse that will be raffled off for Father’s Day.
Clinics will take place at Lowe’s, Southern Pines, on the following dates:
How to Safely Use Hand and Power Tools May 23rd at 9am
How to Frame for Walls and Roofs May 30th at 9am
To sign up for the clinics or to learn more about Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program, interested volunteers should contact Judie Wiggins at 910-295-1934. Registered volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and bring a ready-to-learn attitude. All supplies will be provided on site.

About Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills
Habitat of Humanity of the NC Sandhills was founded in 1988 by an inter-denominational group concerned about substandard housing, and it exists to serve citizens of Moore and Richmond Counties living at 60 percent or less of median income who need suitable housing. Habitat is a Christian ministry with an ecumenical bent and an interfaith focus. Habitat not only builds its houses with the potential homeowners and hundreds of volunteers, but also provides twenty-five or thirty year mortgages for the families at zero interest. Their services are available to people of all races and faiths, as well as to people who profess no religious faith. Since 1988, this affiliate has built 161 homes with and for families in need of affordable housing in the Sandhills.
