Attorney Scott Mossman Provides Immigration Advice to Summit Defense Clients

Oakland, CA, May 22, 2009 --(PR.com)-- According to the US Census, Alameda and Santa Clara Counties rank among the most ethnically diverse places in the United States. Therefore, it’s not surprising that many Bay Area residents who are accused of a crime also happen to be non-citizens.

According to Summit Defense attorney Rabin Nabizadeh, “These people are often hardworking taxpayers who are here legally. However, due to their immigration status, if they find themselves accused of a crime, they face consequences far beyond the usual criminal penalties.”

For example, they might lose their ability to renew a work visa, lose their ability to become a naturalized US Citizen or even be deported back to their country of origin. These are devastating consequences that can affect a whole family, not just the accused. Attorney Nabizadeh says, “this is a classic case of where the punishment just doesn’t fit the crime.”

Summit Defense recognized that a proper defense strategy must take into account the potential immigration consequences prior to negotiating a settlement or going to trial. In the past, Summit would advise their clients to seek advice from an outside immigration attorney. But today, Summit Defense clients benefit from in-house immigration expert, Attorney Scott Mossman.

Scott Mossman received his Law Degree from the University of California, Davis, where he graduated in the top 5% of his class. He received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from California State University, Sacramento. Mr. Mossman is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and is on the Board of Directors for the U.C. Davis Immigration Law Clinic.

Mr. Mossman gives back to the community by volunteering at various organizations such as Centro Legal de la Raza, the Asylum Program of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, and the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC).
