Matrix Design Group Announces MSHA Approval for Wireless Text Communicator and Opening of West Virginia Office

Newburgh, IN, May 29, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Matrix Design Group, LLC announced today the Intrinsic Safety approval of its Two-Way Text Communicator (2WC-T) for use with its approved Miner and Equipment Tracking System (METS) in underground coal mines by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).

“The approval of the 2WC-T wireless text pager provides underground mine operators with a simple, affordable and practical option for fulfilling MSHA communications requirements on the sections and in the escapeways”, said Matrix President Aric Pryor. “We are also excited to announce the opening of an office in Wheeling, West Virginia to provide engineering and technical support to operators and distributors in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.”

With the rising number of METS 2.1 installations in WV and surrounding areas, Matrix is opening an office in Wheeling, WV to provide local support to operators and distributors in WV and Pennsylvania. Matrix will also provide engineering and automation support services to local operators from this office.

The 2WC-T Text Communicator uses a rugged, mine-duty case equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard for sending ad-hoc or canned messages, and uses METS wired or wireless nodes for transmitting and receiving text messages. Four AA alkaline batteries provide an average of six months battery life. The text pager provides cost-effective communications compliance and can be used as the primary communications device or used with an existing non-IS Leaky Feeder system.

Since 2006, METS systems have been tracking workers and equipment in underground coal mines across the United States. While Matrix continues to be the industry leader in US tracking installations, currently tracking over 10,000 miners in all major underground coal mining regions, they’re also continuing the development of additional products like the 2WC-T text communicator that complement and expand current system capabilities. This new product and others like the recently approved wireless node (R2100W) and wireless CO sensor (WAMS-CO) allow Matrix to provide reasonable-cost, low-maintenance tracking, communications, and atmospheric monitoring systems (available soon) to operators.

METS is distributed and supported by Delta Electric of Logan, WV, Carroll Engineering Company of Harlan, KY and Carroll West of Wellington, UT. More information on METS products and Matrix Design Group can be found at www.matrixdginc.com.
