Overland Park, KS, May 29, 2009 --(PR.com)-- On May 19th, Greg and Missey Smith of the Kelsey Smith Foundation awarded the 2nd Kelsey Smith Memorial Scholarship to Bruce Georgiana. Bruce is a Senior at Shawnee Mission West High School and will attend Kansas State University in the fall as a member of the KSU Marching Band.

The Kelsey Smith Memorial Scholarship is awarded in honor of the Overland Park, Kansas teen who was abducted, raped and strangled in 2007. Kelsey was last seen on June 2, 2007 in the parking lot at a department store in Overland Park, Kansas. Police, other authorities and the national media launched an extensive publicity campaign and search for Kelsey.

Surveillance video from the store showed Kelsey purchasing a present for her boyfriend to celebrate their six-month anniversary. She then left the store before she disappeared. Approximately two hours later, her car was found abandoned in the mall parking lot across the street. Her purse and wallet were left in the car.

On June 6, 2007 searchers discovered Kelsey Smith's body in a wooded area in Grandview, Missouri.

On July 23rd, Edwin Roy 'Jack' Hall plead guilty to all four charges brought against him as part of a plea agreement. On September 16, 2008 Johnson County District Judge Peter V. Ruddick sentenced Hall to life in prison without parole for the kidnapping, rape and murder.

The Mission of The Kelsey Smith Foundation, Inc. is to honor and perpetuate the life of Kelsey Smith by empowering families, friends, and communities to proactively protect one of its most precious resources, namely its youth and young adults.
