Huntsville, AL, May 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- TLA, Inc. announces the publication of a new resource for educators, librarians, and families by president, Cathy Puett Miller. Powerful Picture Books: 180 Ideas for Promoting Content Learning offers over ideas for using children's picture books to introduce students of all ages to art, history, writing, geography, science and more. In an eBook format, it contains interactive indices, arranged by subject and by age level (K-12), and is designed to be a quick and easy-to-use resource for anyone reading with or teaching children.

Known as the Literacy Ambassador®, Miller has been training preschool and K-12 educators throughout the U.S. since 1997. Her company, TLA, also provides support for organizations promoting parental involvement in literacy. “I’m thrilled to partner with Inspiringteachers.com, in the publication of this eBook. After writing a monthly column and featured articles for them for several years, this seemed a natural extension of our support of teachers everywhere. The electronic format is perfect for busy professionals and families, and its format makes it eco-friendly, a very important issue these days.”

Miller says the idea for the book really came from her core training as a librarian. “Many educators I met asked for creative ways to help students understand historical events such immigration or lesser known topics such as art during the Harlem Renaissance. The beautiful illustrations and limited text of picture books (which today can sometimes be written at a 6-8 grade reading level) offer a unique way to introduce basics before moving into textbooks.” The eBook also provides suggestions for incorporating each book into classroom or home learning, additional book recommendations, and hyperlinks.

Powerful Picture Books is now available through the online catalog at www.inspiringteachers.com or through www.readingisforeveryone.org, TLA’s new website.
