Lisa Pineiro of Technical Services Inc. Selected to Introduce President Obama

Raleigh, NC, June 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Technical Services Inc. (www.technicalservicesinc.biz), a privately held electrical training and recruiting firm, has announced that Lisa Pineiro, president at the firm, was selected to introduce President Barack Obama during the 2009 National Small Business Week convention in Washington, D.C., May 17-19. Pineiro, the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2009 North Carolina Small Business Person of the Year, was asked to tell her personal story, make a few remarks and introduce President Obama in the East Room at the White House. Small Business Person of the Year recognizes small business owners in each state who demonstrate the entrepreneurial spirit and honors their commitment to the community.

Pineiro is an active resident of the Durham community who is dedicated to building a strong base for the local workforce, specifically within the construction sector. In 2008, Pineiro launched WOmen @ Work, a nonprofit that encourages young women to get involved in traditionally male-dominated construction careers. She is a member of the board of directors for the Construction and Architectural Design Academy at Southern High School in Durham and vice president of the nonprofit Durham Careers in Construction, a group of construction professionals that educate young, at-risk, public school students about the wide array of lucrative careers in construction. Recently, Pineiro was named one of Triangle Business Journal’s 2009 40 Under 40 Leadership Award recipients.

“I was so honored to be asked to introduce President Obama at Small Business Week,” said Pineiro. “I appreciated the opportunity to share my story with him as well as my fellow state award recipients. To have that many small business owners together in one place was a powerful experience, and I was proud to play a role in it.”

About WOmen @ Work:
WOmen @ Work is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging young women to explore traditionally male-dominated construction fields. The organization was founded by Lisa Pineiro, a former cosmetologist who now owns her own electrical training and recruiting firm, Technical Services Inc. (TSI), in Durham, N.C. Pineiro saw the shortage of women in the construction industry and knew that this was a missed opportunity for many young women. As a result, Pineiro formed WOmen @ Work to persuade middle and high school age girls to embrace construction and other trades as a viable career path. Pineiro travels throughout the Southeast to spread her message during a hands-on program that allows young women to learn and exercise skills in construction.
