9 Year-Old Oregon Girl Wins H3 Tours Business Plan Competition with Plan for Unique Dog Treats

9 year-old Oregon resident, Maia Mahoney, claims top prize from the Harlem Hip-Hop Tours (H3 Tours) business plan competition. Her business plan for uniquely flavored dog treats garnered a cash prize of $100.

New York, NY, June 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Harlem Hip-Hop Tours is proud to announce that Warrenton, Oregon resident, Maia Mahoney, has won the top cash prize of $100 for her business plan about launching “The Pupcakery,” a business that produces unique and healthy dog treats. The Pupcakery boasts a menu of several products such as Happy Howlers (chicken-flavored biscuits) and its signature product, Pupcakes (pumpkin cupcakes with yogurt icing and sprinkles).

Ms. Mahoney (9 yrs.) wrote her business plan using the concepts and techniques outlined in the H3 Tours Entrepreneurship Workbook. The H3 Tours Entrepreneurship Workbook was written by H3 Tours CEO, Adrienne Smith, as a means of teaching children about entrepreneurship and how to start their own businesses.

“Maia Mahoney’s business plan for The Pupcakery was well-written and demonstrated a good understanding of pricing, distribution, and product innovation. She also scored extra points by indicating that 5% of her sales would go towards the Clatsop County Animal Shelter. I am a strong believer in social entrepreneurship and that more businesses should make a habit of having their profits, profit others,” says Adrienne Smith.

Maia Mahoney has been working since February 2009 to develop The Pupcakery. She has been selling her innovative dog treats to friends and family for a couple of months, and will make her first public appearance at the Astoria Sunday Market in Astoria, Oregon on Sunday, June 14th. Ms. Mahoney will continue to sell her products at the Astoria Market every Sunday throughout the summer. In addition to her retail presence, Ms. Mahoney will also sell her dog biscuits via online distributor, Etsy.com.
