Improving Governance is Only Solution to Pakistan's Woes

For the first time in the 60-year history of Pakistan, the civil society organizes itself into Good Governance Council to propagate, promote and pursue good governance in the federal, provincial and district governments as well as the public sector corporations and statutory bodies tasked to provide public services. It is set to lead the way to meet the Challenge of Change in the 21st century Pakistan.

Lahore, Pakistan, June 19, 2009 --(PR.com)-- GGC will identify, analyze and intrepret public issues in the fields of internal and external security, terrorism, extremism, law enforcement, economy, judicial justice, social justice, economic justice, civil liberties, human rights, poverty alleviation, unemployment, provision of education, health, transport, and basic amenities for the citizens of Pakistan and will recommend solutions to the relevant authorities for implementation.

GGC will seek remedy from the executive, legislature, and judiciary through lawful means to provide relief to the aggrieved citizens of Pakistan and to seek support from the mass media to highlight public issues, create awareness among the concerned citizens and to solicit public support.

GGC will have representatives on its Board of Advisors, Central Executive Committee and the Federal Council from all segments of the society including the scholars, educationists, researchers, parliamentarians, retired civilian and military bureaucrats, retired judges, businessmen and industrialists, working journalists and electronic media anchor persons, civil society organizations, human rights organizations and so on.

GGC will seek affiliation with world-renowned civil society organizations to strengthen good governance not only in Pakistan but also in other parts of the world.

GGC will seek and obtain financial contributions from the members of the BOA, CEC and the Federal Council for the overall functioning of the Council. GGC will also seek and obtain financial contributions from non-political, non-religious and non-ethnic foundations and statutory bodies within and outside Pakistan.

GGC is preceded by the Good Governance Forum, founded in 2007 by Mumtaz A. Piracha, who is now the Founder of the GGC as well, to campaign via Internet for the restoration of the deposed judges, induction of democracy and lifting of emergency in Pakistan. The Forum is indexed at # 3 position out of 13 million listings under good governance forum on the World's #1 search engine Google.

GGC is looking ahead to support from civil society activists, fund-raisers and philanthropists across the globe to join in the struggle to meet the Challenge of Change in Pakistan and to bring peace and prosperity in the region encompassing Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Russia, Central Asian Republics, Iran and China.
