Dallas, TX, June 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- MicroTransponder Inc., a privately held medical device company, was named one of the most promising Life Science companies at the 8th Annual Rice Alliance for Technology & Entrepreneurship Life Science Venture Forum in Houston last week. Life Science companies showcased their new ventures for an audience of more than 400 attendees, including investors, venture capitalists, industry representatives, business leaders, advisors/mentors, service providers, and entrepreneurs. Doerr, M.D., partner, Essex Woodlands Health Ventures said of the presenters, “This is one of the most mature groups of healthcare-related company presentations that I have reviewed, and I intend to follow their progress closely.”

CEO Will Rosellini, who graciously accepted the award stated, “We are honored by this recognition from the Rice Alliance. The Masters of Regulatory Science was taught by Dr. Frances Richmond and Dr. Gerald Loeb, inventors of the BION™ implantable neurostimulator sold to Boston Scientific. Executive Changes

MicroTransponder has announced two executive promotions. Jordan Curnes will now have the title of President & COO and Frank McEachern will have the title of Executive Chairman of the Board & CFO. Rosellini remains at the helm of MicroTransponder as CEO. These changes reflect the commitment of current leadership to commercialize several neurostimulation products to treat chronic pain and other neurological disorders.

Additional Management Team

Chief Technology Officer Scott Armstrong spent 6 years as the Director of Electrical Design Engineering at Cyberonics, managing the development of several Class III neurostimulation systems with over 30 new platform features. Armstrong brings over 15 years of medical device experience to MicroTransponder, including time spent as Director of R&D at Dentsply International and engineer at St. Jude Medical. Scott holds a MS & BS in Electrical Engineering and holds 2 medical device patents.

Chief Scientific Officer Paul McArthur, PhD, was the former Chief Scientist for Advanced Bionics and directed the BION 3 project. McArthur has extensive experience with implantable circuit design and holds a PhD in Medical Physics from King’s College.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Richard Weiner is a pioneer in the development of peripheral nerve stimulation techniques. Dr. Weiner has served 2 terms as the Chief of Neurosurgery at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas and is a clinical associate professor at UT Southwestern.
