Massage Therapy Aids in Oncology Treatment

Atlanta, GA, June 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Shannon Grant, the owner of The Art of Touch Massage will be discussing the benefits of Oncology massage with attendees at this weekend’s Emory Celebration of Living. Grant will discuss oncology massage as a medical treatment and explain how massage therapy can significantly enhance the health and well-being of a cancer patient.

Grant is returning to the Emory Celebration of Learning for the second time to meet and educate attendees on the importance and benefits of massage therapy as an extension to oncology treatments.

Despite common perception, massage therapy is a safe treatment for cancer patients. Recent studies show that oncology massage has been proven to reduce anxiety and nausea, ease pain and improve sleep. The American Cancer Society now recommends massage therapy to bring comfort and improve the quality of life of cancer patients: “There is more to a cancer patient than just a mass of cancerous cells, and massage therapy is a great way for the patient to reconnect with their body and mind.”

Shannon Grant earned her B.A. degree in Secondary Education from Boston College and later attended the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy to continue her Massage Therapy education. Most recently Shannon has complimented her massage education by completing courses such as Myofascial Release, Working with Clients with Cancer, Parkinson's Disease and Massage, and Hot Stone Massage.

The Celebration of Living is sponsored by the Emory Winship Cancer Institute and is a day of celebration that recognizes the daily life of cancer patients, survivors, their families, and their friends. The event will be held on June 20, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. The event is free and open to the public.
