Missouri Botanical Garden Comes to Life with Cell Phone Audio Tour

Public Can Peruse Garden and Learn about Henry Shaw Aided by Cell Phone

San Francisco, CA, June 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Guide by Cell, the nation’s leading mobile technology provider for nonprofit organizations, announced that its cell phone audio guide service is now being used as part of a self-guided walking tour at the Missouri Botanical Garden, a leading scientific research center about plants located in St. Louis. The tour gives visitors an opportunity to learn about horticulture and the significance of Henry Shaw, founder of the garden 150 years ago, through the use of a cell phone, bringing a unique experience to anyone visiting this National Historic Landmark.

The audio tour is arranged in a sequence of historical events to provide visitors a perspective about the buildings which make the Garden unique. For example, the greenhouse known as the Linnean House is one of the first audio tour stops on the tour. Visitors see a sign for the audio tour, call the local phone number using their own cell phone, and listen to facts about the specific types of plants the greenhouse housed through its history. From here, visitors can continue their visit to learn more about the scientific and historical significance of the botanical garden.

“Providing a cell phone tour gives the Missouri Botanical Garden the opportunity to reach out to the public in new and interesting ways,” said Jennifer Wolff, Manager of Interpretation. “Our visitors love being able to take out their phone and learn about anything that interests them. The cell phone tour is being very well received and we’re happy to offer an enhanced experience to our visitors.”

“The Missouri Botanical Garden is a beautiful and historic garden, and offers a vast richness of educational experiences,” stated David Asheim, President and Founder of Guide by Cell Inc. “We are so pleased that the Missouri Botanical Garden is using our technology to help fulfill their goal of educating visitors and entertaining them through the garden’s beauty.”
