New York’s Central Park Unveils Celebrity-Infused Audio Guide

Hottest Names in Entertainment Lend Voice-overs for New York’s Beloved Park

San Francisco, CA, June 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Guide by Cell, the nation’s leading mobile technology provider for nonprofit organizations, announced the launch of a Central Park cell phone-based audio guide of Central Park. The audio guide enables all visitors to use their cell phone to hear celebrities describe park highlights, landmarks, historical data, and fun facts about Central Park. Many of Hollywood and New York’s biggest stars take visitors on a private tour through their favorite destinations. Celebrities who are participating in the program are essentially a ‘Who’s Who’ list of Broadway actors and Hollywood stars whose passion for the park comes to life when visiting the park with a cell phone. Celebrities include Jerry Seinfeld, Whoopi Goldberg, Glenn Close, and Anne Hathaway. It is the first technologically-based program audio guide of its kind ever used at Central Park.

The Central Park Conservancy, the nonprofit organization that manages New York City’s Central Park, sought to enliven the public’s appreciation for, and knowledge about, the park in an innovative and memorable way. The audio guide was chosen to complement the public’s appreciation for the park and to bring context about the park’s history and landmarks with the help of the nation’s most admired entertainers.

“The Central Park Audio Guide puts the park’s rich history and restoration right in the palm of your hand,” said Douglas Blonsky, President of the Central Park Conservancy and Central Park Administrator.

The audio guide is simple to use for anyone visiting the Park. Look for the little green signs, dial the phone number and corresponding extension to hear a celebrity-guided tour and information.

“Guide by Cell was the best mobile technology provider for the scope of our project,” commented Scott Johnson, Director of Communications and Branding. “There were two primary reasons for our decision. First, since they have worked with over 500 institutions around the world they have tremendous knowledge about how to create a compelling mobile experience for our park visitors. And second, their technology and feature set is far superior to any other mobile audio company.”

“We are delighted to work with the Central Park Conservancy,” stated David Asheim, President and Founder of Guide by Cell Inc. “I’m sure that visitors to Central Park will always be impressed by all the park provides and having an audio guide available with the help of celebrities, makes the experience particularly fun and technologically innovative.”
