Containers Filled with Educational Aid is In-route to Samoa
CERF has sent two containers filled with student and teacher kits, books, and clothing to Samoa. The containers are scheduled to arrive in Samoa on August 23rd. The much needed kits will be distributed to the students and teachers of Lalomanu, and Fasito’o primary schools.
Apia, Samoa, August 20, 2006 --(PR.com)-- The Children’s Educational Relief Foundation (CERF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization currently aiding school children in the Pacific Islands. Two containers filled with 300 student and 24 teacher kits, books, and clothing are in-route to Samoa where the kits will be distributed to the students and teachers of Lalomanu, and Fasito’o primary schools. The containers will arrive in Samoa the end of August where a CERF representative will distribute the kits. Books will be given to schools to help develop their libraries, and the clothing will be given to children who lack thereof.
Founded in 2004 by Ao and Karen Pauga CERF is committed to assist children in reaching their greatest potential. Neilson Mandela has said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Many children of Samoa live in a world of poverty. The United Nations reports that Samoa is one of the least developed nations and that 48% of Samoan families live off 1.34 (US) per day.
CERF’s goal with their humanitarian efforts is to give hope, and to let the children know that someone cares. “Sometimes knowing that someone believes in you is enough. Enough to continue coming to school, enough to work hard everyday, enough to make a difference, enough to escape the bands of poverty”, says co-founder Karen Pauga, “giving someone the gift of hope can be the greatest gift one can receive”.
In addition to sending educational and humanitarian supplies, CERF awards scholarships to primary and secondary students. Although, education is compulsory tuition is required to attend all schools. Students can be seen selling goods on the streets and in the local market place during school hours. “They are only doing what their parents ask of them”, says co-founder Ao Pauga, “food is more important than school, so whatever little money is available goes to surviving another day”. For the 2006 school year CERF awarded 32 scholarships and 9 students were sponsored.
CERF is hosting a benefit luau on August 25th at Murray Park in Murray, Utah. The event begins at 6:30pm. “The luau,” states Ao Pauga, “is an opportunity to eat great food, watch great entertainment, and benefit children in third-world countries.”
