MUMC in Savannah Names Mary Chatman Chief Nursing Officer

Savannah, GA, June 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Memorial University Medical Center (MUMC) today announced the appointment of Mary Chatman, MSN, R.N., as its new chief nursing officer (CNO). She will officially start work on August 3.

“Memorial’s nurses are outstanding caregivers. As CNO, Mary Chatman will help guide them as they continue to provide compassionate, world-class care each and every day. She will also advocate for the career and personal advancement of our nurses,” said Phillip S. Schaengold, J.D., MBA, president and CEO of Memorial Health.

Chatman most recently served as vice president and CNO at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, an 861-bed academic medical center in Greenville, North Carolina.

“We conducted a nationwide search for this important job. Mary brings to us incredible depth and breadth of experience, and we’re very pleased she’s joining our team,” said Schaengold.

Chatman’s leadership experience in clinical management is extensive and varied, and includes transformational leadership, quality improvement, fiscal management, shared governance, patient and family centered care, and nursing recruitment and retention.

Chatman earned her Master of Science in Nursing Administration and Bachelor of Science in Nursing at East Carolina University. She is currently working on her Doctorate in Nursing degree.
