Make-a-Wish Foundation® Celebrates Success from Walk for Wishes

Indianapolis, IN, July 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Greater Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana, Indiana Region with the help of dedicated walkers and volunteers, raised nearly $68,000 for the 4th Annual Walk for Wishes®. The Walk, which was held Saturday June, 20, included 73 teams and an additional 475 individuals who joined the Walk. News anchor Angela Cain from WTHR Channel 13 emceed the event, along with Dave Decker from radio station 99.5 WZPL.

This year’s walk featured the Region’s 2,500th wish child, Baylie, whose wish was to swim with dolphins. Nine-year-old Baylie’s inspirational story of strength and determination helped to motivate the Walk participants to continue the Walk with pride and joy for the wish children they were benefiting. Walk participants and volunteers had the opportunity to meet Baylie and her family at the event on Saturday.

The Wish Reunion Celebration concluded the Walk in Fishers Town Square. Participants enjoyed family-friendly games, food and entertainment.

At the wish reunion guests had the opportunity to meet current and past wish families, as well as Wish Ambassadors representing Indianapolis, Evansville, Zanesville, Tippecanoe and Terre Haute. Guests were able to share the power of a wish® and hear each child’s individual stories of hope, strength and joy throughout their battles with life-threatening illnesses.

“Walk for Wishes gives Make-A-Wish supporters, volunteers, wish families and individuals the opportunity to raise funds for courageous kids in our community and to celebrate life,” commented Executive Director Juli Miller. “I am deeply grateful for the support of our host at Fishers Town Hall, our major sponsors: Kroger, Charles Schwab, Frigo Cheeseheads, Motorola, Biddle Memorial Foundation, Fifth Third Bank, and UAW-GM and all the Walk participants who help raise over $68,000 for our inspirational wish children.”

There are currently more than 275 children from Indiana, just like Baylie and their special Wish Ambassadors, waiting for wishes. Financial support generated from the Walk for Wishes will provide the funding needed to make their wishes come true and ignite the spirit of hope.
