Wake County SmartStart Receives Clean Audit Report

Raleigh, NC, July 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Wake County SmartStart is proud to announce it has received, for the fifth consecutive year, a clean bill of financial health, according to the Office of State Auditor. An audit of Wake County SmartStart’s FY 2007-08 activities found the organization was in compliance with all applicable rules, laws and regulations, and had appropriate internal controls. In FY 2007-08 the organization’s total expenditures including state level contracts were $21.5 million.

Every two years, the state audits Wake County SmartStart. Auditors look for compliance in three core areas: accuracy of financial statements; how the partnership processes and authorizes transactions such as grants, accounts payable, payroll and cash receipts; and contract compliance. “The completion of another successful audit is a reflection of Wake County SmartStart’s dedication to being a responsible steward of taxpayer resources, a role we take very seriously” stated Gary Carr, Wake County SmartStart controller. “We are very pleased with our results. We have worked hard to use every tax dollar wisely to help our children and county thrive, and the audit confirms this,” Garr concluded.
