Fox 26 Houston Reports on the Common Thread Circle
Houston, TX, July 07, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Fox News Anchor Pattie Shieh and a camera crew visited the Common Thread Circle on May 19, 2009 for a story on donations to Harris County Hospitals.
The Common Thread Circle, a non-profit organization that makes fabric handcrafts for patients in local hospitals, completed over 200 soft heart-shaped pillows during and after the taping of the news program. These will be used for post-operative patients at Harris County area hospitals, explained Susan Dunten, a volunteer with the group.
Shieh and her team interviewed Jennifer Barnes, Director of Volunteer and Guest Services for the Harris County Hospital District, and Liz Tice, from Ben Taub Hospital's volunteer services department, as well as Common Thread Circle organizer Rima Blanc. In addition to twenty-five members who cheerfully stuffed pillows and stitched in the background, the event was attended by the staff sponsor at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, the Reverend Suzanne Cox Reedstrom.
The meeting also commemorated The Common Thread Circle's donations of more than 5300 handcrafted fabric works to Houston Area hospitals during the fiscal year ended May 31, 2009. In fact, according to volunteer Christel Dekker, a patient receives a Common Thread pillow or toy every two hours throughout the year. The camera crew also got to see pink scarves and pillows donated to breast cancer patients, as well as matching catch-alls and laundry bags donated to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) at Harris County Hospitals.
