First A4M World Stem Cell Clinical Summit Announced

Recognizing the significant advances that have been made in stem cell research worldwide over the last several years, The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine will host the first ever A4M World Stem Cell Clinical Summit on Saturday, September 12, 2009 in conjunction with the Anti-Aging Conference: Clinical Applications for In-Office Procedures in San Jose California.

Chicago, IL, July 10, 2009 --(PR.com)-- A team of renowned speakers from across the globe will explore the latest developments at the forefront of stem cell research and their impact on the practice of medicine across a wide spectrum of disciplines.

Attendees will also hear reports on how treatment with adult stem cells are already in clinical trials or available worldwide and are proving successful in treating various injuries and genetic diseases and conditions.

On slate for this not-to-miss gathering of stem cell research experts are the following presentations:
Keynote Address:
Session Title: Stem Cell Research and Liver Regeneration
Presenter: Xuetao Pei, PhD:
Description: This presentation will focus on the research being done currently on bone marrow and embryonic stem cell derived heptatocytes and their interaction with the microenvironment. It will also discuss the microfabrication tools this research group has devised to improve cellular therapies in liver disease.

About Dr. Pei: Dr Pie is Professor and Director of Beijing Institute of Transfusion Medicine and SCRM Research Center, Chief Scientist of Key Project of State High‐tech Project “Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering”. His main research fields are stem cell biology, stem cell therapy and regenerative medicine.

Session Title: Introduction to Stem Cell Research
Presenter: Mitchell J. Ghen, DO, PhD
Description: This lecture will introduce the types of stem cells and their potential uses in clinical medicine today and in the future.

Session Title: Recruiting Endogenous Stem Cells: The “Built‐In Repair Kit”
Presenter: Stephen Holt, MD, PhD
Description: This lecture will discuss the body’s “built‐in repair kit”, techniques to mobilize endogenous adult stem cells.

Session Title: Stem Cell Treatment in Orthopedics
Presenter: Christopher Centeno, MD
Description: This session will focus on the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for musculoskeletal tissue repair.

Session Title: Stem Cells: Basic Concepts, Current Clinical Applications and Case Studies
Presenter: Zannos Grekos, MD
Description: The basic concepts of stem cell therapy will be reviewed, highlighting the different sources of stem cells, and the current state of research with embryonic stem cells as compared to adult stem cells in fighting disease. The presentation will focus on the application of Autologous Adult Stem Cell Therapy as a treatment for patients with various end stage diseases.

Session Title: Stem Cells and Bone Marrow Transplants: Current Medical Applications and Clinical Studies in Regenerative Medicine
Presenter: Dipnarine Maharaj, MD, PhD
Description: This lecture will discuss the different types of stem cells and the use of adult stem cells for the treatment of Parkinsons, cardiac repair, and generating granulocytes for solid tumor cancer therapy.

Session Title: Limitations and Advantages to Stem Cell‐based Technologies
Presenter: Raphael Gorodetsky, PhD
Description: This lecture will discuss the possible advantages and major difficulties in stem cell based therapy for failing organs. In addition the current limitations in adopting stem cell based tissue engineering will be discussed, as well as presenting a solution for stem cell based therapy of failing organs.

Session Title: Hematopoetic Stem Cell Transplantation for New Onset Type 1 Diabetes
Presenter: Richard Burt, MD
Description: This lecture will discuss the new ground-breaking research on teaching new onset type 1 diabetes with hematopoetic stem cell transplantation.

Session Title: Clinical Applications of Stem cells in Orthopedic Practices
Presenter: Mitchell J. Ghen, DO, PhD
Description: This lecture will discuss the current uses of peripheral blood as well as bone marrow aspirate for patients with degenerative arthritic conditions with emphasis on joints.

About the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M):
The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, Inc. (A4M) is a non-profit medical society dedicated to the advancement of technology to detect, prevent, and treat aging related disease and to promote research into methods to retard and optimize the human aging process. A4M is also dedicated to educating physicians, scientists, and members of the public on biomedical sciences, breaking technologies, and anti-aging issues. A4M believes that the disabilities associated with normal aging are caused by physiological dysfunction which in many cases are ameliorable to medical treatment, such that the human lifespan can be increased, and the quality of one's life enhanced as one grows chronologically older. A4M seeks to disseminate information concerning innovative science and research as well as treatment modalities designed to prolong the human lifespan. Anti-Aging Medicine is based on the scientific principles of responsible medical care consistent with those of other healthcare specialties. Although A4M seeks to disseminate information on many types of medical treatments, it does not promote or endorse any specific treatment nor does it sell or endorse any commercial product.
