Colorado Technical University to Participate in Yellow Ribbon Program for Veterans

Eligible Veterans Receive Tuition Funding for Online and Ground Campus Degree Programs.

Chicago, IL, July 23, 2009 --(PR.com)-- All five Colorado Technical University (CTU) campuses, including its online campus, will participate in the federal government’s Yellow Ribbon Program, which provides tuition and fee assistance to eligible veterans.

The Yellow Ribbon Program is part of the Post-9/11 Veterans Assistance Act of 2008 through which qualified veterans can receive grants to help cover tuition and fees equal to the most expensive in-state undergraduate education at a public university. Under the Yellow Ribbon Program provision, CTU and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will provide matching contributions for tuition should a degree program exceed the Post-9/11 GI Bill cap for that state. The Post-9/11 GI Bill with the Yellow Ribbon Program goes into effect Aug.1.

“We’ve always been committed to supporting our military and veteran students. Our participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program will further help our nation’s veterans receive a top-tier education and career-relevant degrees at CTU,” said Jim Hendrickson, vice president of military education for CTU. “Our learning atmosphere provides the flexibility and support that help our students succeed. These funding options will make an education at CTU a reality for many more veterans and service members.”

Veterans are eligible for full funding through the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program if they have served at least three years of active military duty after Sept. 10, 2001, or were honorably discharged from active duty for a service-related disability and served at least 30 continuous days after Sept. 10, 2001.

The CTU Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Kansas City ground campuses will participate in the program at the maximum level, covering 100 percent tuition and fee costs for all degree programs for eligible veterans. The online campus will also fully fund all degree programs for qualified veterans. The CTU Sioux Falls campus will participate at a level that will allow veterans to attend the campus at a significantly reduced cost. One-third – or about 8,000 – of CTU ground and online campus students are active military, reservists, National Guard, veterans and their spouses. In addition to participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program, CTU provides these students with a wide array of support services. Through the CTU department of military education, these students have access to military admissions officers, who help expedite the enrollment process, as well as to military education benefits specialists who ensure military students and their families obtain their maximum, eligible, benefits.

For more information about the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, prospective students can contact the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at www.gibill.va.gov or at (888) 442-4551.
