Arsys Opens New Data Center in Spain

Air conditioning's energy consumption will be reduced by 40%

LogroƱo, Spain, July 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Arsys, an Internet services provider, today announced it has opened its new data center in Spain, incorporating the latest technological advances in energy efficiency and availability. The new data center also allows maximum flexibility in server configurations offering Tier 3 and Tier 2 data center capabilities, depending on customer needs.

Arsys' new data center is in La Rioja, Spain, where the company is headquartered, and has the capacity to house up to 15,000 servers. The facility will include four data rooms, consisting of 250 square meters of raised floor space each, to be enabled progressively, within a 6,000 square meter building. This scalability of the technical area is one of the key innovative features of the data center, allowing the technical infrastructure to grow together with the company. The company anticipates spending 20 million Euros over the next ten years.

To minimize the environmental impact of hosting, Arsys’ data center incorporates several innovations in energy efficiency and its structure takes maximum advantage of the climate conditions of its geographical location. Some key features include thermal coating to keep the indoor temperature, duct systems to supply cold air from the outside to the inside of the facility and a liquid cooling system with high efficient cooling towers. In environmental terms, these features will reduce the air conditioning’s energy consumption by 40% and consequently CO2 emissions.

As a result of these innovations, Arsys’ new data center offers high energy efficiency, achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.45. PUE is an industry standard developed by The Green Grid (www.thegreengrid.org) that is used to assess the energy efficiency of data centers. The lower the resulting ratio, the more efficient the data center.

Another innovative feature is the possibility to install servers with different security and availability configurations, depending on customer needs. The company’s customers can host their web services in Tier 3 or Tier 2.

In addition to the energy-efficient features, the data center supplies numerous measures of physical security, IT and telecommunications. The facility has a 24/7 monitoring system, latest generation insulation, laser beam fire detection system, protection against electromagnetic radiation, among others.

The facility is directly connected to Arsys’ telecommunications network, 2 redundant lines with a total capacity of 20 Gbps, which communicates with the Internet Exchange Points in Madrid, London and Paris, guaranteeing an optimal download time.

The company offers a range of services including collocation; shared, dedicated and cloud hosting; domain name registration; ecommerce services; business applications; marketing online tools and hybrid exchange email platform.
