Easter Seals Eastern PA Earns Seal of Excellence

First Non-Profit in Lehigh Valley and Poconos to pass rigorous ethics and accountability standards.

Emmaus, PA, July 30, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Easter Seals Eastern PA (ESEP) has been awarded the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO) Seal of Excellence for successfully completing the Standards for Excellence certification program. Easter Seals voluntarily opened itself up to scrutiny by a “jury of its peers” who examined ESEP’s compliance with PANO’s Standards for Excellence: An Ethics Accountability Code for the Nonprofit Sector.

Standards for Excellence are based on fundamental values such as honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, trust, responsibility and accountability. ESEP’s programs and services, management, fundraising and financial practices were examined in depth before the certification was awarded. The Seal of Excellence is granted to the most well-managed and responsibly governed nonprofit organizations that deserve the public’s trust. ESEP is the first nonprofit in the Lehigh Valley and Poconos to be awarded PANO’s Standards for Excellence certification and seal and one of only eight in Berks County.

“Submitting to the scrutiny required for certification under the Standards for Excellence wasn’t easy, but was a worthwhile process for us. This seal shows we have taken every step to ensure we’re serving the community and operating in an ethical and upright way,” says Nancy Teichman, CEO of Easter Seals Eastern PA. “ESEP’s work on behalf of children and young adults with disabilities exemplifies both our dedication to our cause and to meeting the highest standards of ethical practice. We will continue to strive for excellence.”

With the current state of the economy, people are thinking long and hard on where to direct their charitable giving. The PANO seal allows prospective donors to know that when they make a contribution to Easter Seals Eastern PA, their hard earned dollars will be spent wisely.

“Organizations which are successful in the certification program should be commended for their commitment to excellence and integrity,” says Joe Geiger, Executive Director of PANO. “With every new organization that meets the Standards, we move one step closer to the day when the public will feel confident that its nonprofit organizations are acting ethically and are accountable in their program operations, governance, human resources, financial management and fundraising practices.”
