Cross International Reaches a New Audience Through Social Media

The South-Florida-based nonprofit relief and development agency, Cross International, is using social media to connect with supporters and share information faster. Through platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and blogging, Cross is now able to quickly provide the latest news, stories, and photos from the projects it supports around the world.

Pompano Beach, FL, August 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- For example, one of Cross’ mission partners in Haiti recently suffered a horrible loss when several staff members died in a vehicle accident. Through its field blog, Cross was able to report the news as it happened and ask for prayers from its supporters.

The charity’s new social media initiative is also allowing it to engage whole new audiences, especially teens and young adults.

“We are very excited for this opportunity to reach out to people who normally wouldn’t hear about our ministry work,” says Nell Handley, Cross’ Web director and the person spearheading its new social media initiative. “Our social media sites also allow our supporters to get a more intimate, immediate look at the work we do.”

Here are a few of the ways you can get connected to Cross International using social media:

Facebook — The charity has been raising money for the poor through mini campaigns using Facebook Causes, which allows supporters to create their own cause to benefit Cross. You can also join the charity’s Facebook group, www.facebook.com/crossinternational, where you’ll find stories, photos, and links from its aid projects.

Cross Field Blog — Cross’ blog, www.crossfieldblog.com, allows supporters to “visit” the projects they help by reading touching stories from the field, which are updated several times a week. It also shares information about the people Cross helps, the missionary heroes it partners with, and the latest news from its projects.

Twitter — Learn more about the ethos of Cross and its day-to-day activities through its micro blogging site, twitter.com/CrossIntl. You’ll also find links to the latest social development and aid news, as well as inspirational quotes, stories and scripture verses.

Cross is also on Wikipedia, YouTube and the photo sharing site, Flickr. Next time you are surfing the Web, be sure to visit Cross’ new social media sites.
