Local Family Continues Walk to Honor Mother

Bridgewater Walk Helps Raise Money for Ovarian Cancer Research

Bridgewater, MA, August 27, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Ovations for the Cure, a national ovarian cancer organization dedicated to research, patient support programs and raising awareness for ovarian cancer has rejoined forces for the second year with Karla Morast Psaros to host a three-mile fundraising walk in honor of her mother, Frances Morast. Frances lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2007. Her memory lives on with this special community fundraiser.

The town of Bridgewater meant a lot to Frances. It was where she lived most of her life, taught at the local Bridgewater school, and made a difference for the school system through fundraising. What better way to remember Frances, then to continue this walk in her memory in the town that had been touched by her caring and generous spirit.

September is nationally recognized as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. This event, which starts and finishes at Bridgewater’s Williams Middle School, is being held on Saturday, September 12. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m.; the walk commences at 10:00 a.m.

Last year, the “Frances F. Morast Walk to Beat Ovarian Cancer” raised over $33,000 with over 300 walkers participating in the walk. The “Frances F. Morast Walk to Beat Ovarian Cancer” event will once again raise valuable money for research funds while raising awareness of the diseases’ symptoms. This year BJ’s Wholesale Club and Copy Inks has joined with Ovations for the Cure and the Morast family, to sponsor this event.

About Ovations for the Cure
Ovations for the Cure, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to the relentless pursuit of a cure for ovarian cancer in three critical ways. First, by providing critical funding of new and ongoing ovarian cancer research and treatment initiatives. Second, by actively increasing the awareness of the subtle signs and symptoms of this silent disease. Third, by giving hope, education and comfort to those currently battling ovarian cancer through its patient programs. The organization was founded in 2006 by nine-year ovarian cancer survivor Patricia Franchi Flaherty, who also lost her mother to the disease. Patty decided to dedicate her life to raising awareness of the risk factors and subtle warning signs of this often overlooked women’s cancer so no other women would have to endure what she did.
