Hillsborough, NJ, September 14, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Taste of Crete will have an all day (10am-6 pm) Grand Opening celebration at their inaugural location of 400 Route 206 South in Hillsborough, New Jersey 08844. A ceremonial ribbon cutting will be held at 12 noon, with the Mayor of Hillsborough, Mr. Frank Delcore. The White Mountains Cretan Youth Dance Troop will perform traditional Greek dances. Mini massages will be offered by Tree of Life Massage Therapy. The Grand Opening will also have a raffle for a lovely gift basket, as well as other products, and special pricing.

Taste of Crete is the personal inspiration of founder Esther Luongo Psarakis. As Esther explains “I am a non Greek who married into this wonderful culture and travel every summer to the family farm on the island of Crete. There I learned the traditional Greek recipes from my mother- in- law Evangelia. I would always return with my suitcases stuffed with the natural and healthy bounty of Greece to share with family and friends. All this lead to me starting my company Taste of Crete.” Elaborating, “I thought the timing was right to have a physical location in addition to our website and wholesale/import business. I want to create an atmosphere that when people step inside, they feel they have been transported to Greece. We have a prime location directly on Route 206. Even though we are in the midst of a recession, I am optimistic that we are creating a vibrant new business in the Hillsborough community.”

Customers will have the opportunity to sample Taste of Crete’s array of natural & organic foods. These delicious products include: Taste of Crete Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which won a Gold Medal in the International Olive Oils of the World Competition, Evangelia’s Traditional Greek Cookies, made with olive oil, which are Vegan and cholesterol free, and a variety of preserves, savories, honeys, cheeses, olives, yogurts, infused vinegars. In addition, they will have fresh prepared Greek foods, such as moussaka, patitsio, spinach pie, and deserts like baklava based on family recipes. Taste of Crete also offers inspiring Greek cookbooks, beautifully hand-painted dip dishes and glassware, done by artist Brenda Sotolongo, and custom signs designed by Elenisays.

Customized and standard gift baskets are available for all occasions and can be shipped anywhere. A unique offering is Taste of Crete’s Greek Food of the Month Club, a great gift option for a friend, family member, business associate, or for oneself. Recipients will receive a monthly variety of gourmet Greek specialties shipped straight to their door.

Although Taste of Crete will have a significantly strong Greek flavor, it will be a bit eclectic and multicultural with its offerings. La Dolce Gourmet, Taste of Crete’s sister company, makes decadently rich chocolate truffles, with some flavors evoking Greece. It also carries products from fellow local “Foodpreneurs,” such as Jalima Coffee from Mexico and Grab em’ Snacks plantain chips.

Esther Luongo Psarakis, founder of Taste of Crete, states: “I am thrilled to have a retail location where I can share with my customers my passion for Greek food & culture in particular. She adds, “Tasting events will be held regularly, to both educate and inspire customers to use our products and to enjoy a healthy Mediterranean lifestyle.”

Taste of Crete has won a number of awards such as the NJ Small Business Development 2006 Success Award, the 2007 Economic Vitality Award by Somerset County Business Partnership, was a finalist in Make Mine a Million for Women’s Economic Independence sponsored by American Express, and most recently Ms Psarakis was recognized by Sam’s Club as an emerging woman entrepreneur in 2008.

Taste of Crete is ideally situated at Route 206 in a beige ranch house. It is next to the Cost Cutters strip mall, and is diagonally across the highway from Charlie Brown’s restaurant and directly across from National Pools.
