La Vuelta Sponsors, Fear €1 Million Valverde Payout

Europe's leading on-line gaming and sportsbook website fear that Alejandro Valverde could cost them a €1 million payout. The local rider is now the odds on favourite to win the Vuelta A Espana cycling race. The event finishes on Sunday in Madrid and the Spanish rider currently leads the race by 31 seconds from the Dutch rider Robert Gesink.

Madrid, Spain, September 16, 2009 --( Spanish bettors are on the edge of a €1million payday if countryman Alejandro Valverde wins la Vuelta in Madrid this week.

Online betting company, reports that 90% of all bets have been for Valverde, and they face a payout of €1million if he wins this year’s Tour.

David Hood, spokesman for the Green Jersey sponsors said: “Spanish gamblers have supported Valverde as if defeat is out of the question and he looks certain to repay their patriotic faith. This is the first year has sponsored La Vuelta and it has meant that many more people have had a bet than ever before. Unfortunately they have almost all bet on Alejandro and it could prove to be a very expensive event for us.”
