HACU and MyCollegeOptions.org Partner to Advance Hispanic Student Access to Higher Education

Lee's Summit, MO, September 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- My College Options®, the nation’s leading college planning program announces a partnership with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). This partnership will serve to build a vital pipeline for Hispanic high school students to higher education access.

HACU is an association of more than 400 colleges and universities across the United States committed to advancing Hispanic higher education. Its membership also includes almost 50 institutions in Latin America, Spain and Portugal. A primary aspect of HACU’s mission is to improve access to and the quality of post-secondary education opportunities for Hispanic students. Since 2007 HACU has also been reaching out to the nation’s 2,000 Hispanic-serving school districts, where Hispanic students make up at least 25% of the K-12 enrollment.

This partnership will:

Support HACU’s Hispanic-Serving School District (HSSD) initiative;
Encourage students to participate in a cutting-edge college planning program;
Allow Hispanic Serving School Districts to have an accurate measure of their students’ post-secondary goals and aspirations;
Connect students with essential college and career preparation assistance.

“HACU is excited about its new partnership with My College Options. It promises to directly strengthen the information Hispanic young people have about college options as well as increase the information we have about their educational aspirations and planning. It should also provide significant value to our member institutions and affiliated Hispanic-serving school districts,” said Dr. Antonio Flores, HACU President and CEO.

This spring, HACU and My College Options will be supporting school districts across the country and encouraging their participation in this unique initiative. Later in the year, the program will deliver quantitative research and trend analysis to school districts and superintendents nationwide to help them better understand the attitudes and opinions of students and educators in their districts. This vital research information will include data such as: the number of first generation college students, college and career preferences, and attitudes on the current state of Science, Engineering, Technology, and Math education across the country.

Ryan Munce, Vice President of My College Options, said: “This joint effort will take a meaningful step towards increasing high school graduation rates and closing the college attainment achievement gap for Hispanic students.”
