Independence Station Partners with EcoDomo

Independence, OR, September 23, 2009 --(PR.com)-- EcoDomo leather tiles will add another green component and sophisticated style to Independence Station, the mixed-use facility expected to become the World’s Greenest Building when it opens in Independence, OR, next year. Made from the discarded scraps from BMW car seat manufacturers and other tanneries, EcoDomo leather tiles will cover floors and walls in parts of the building.

“The use of EcoDomo leather tiles in Independence Station will demonstrate to the world that spaces can be luxurious and artfully designed while still conserving resources,” said Steven Ribeiro, Developer at Aldeia, LLC.

EcoDomo LLC shreds leather scraps that would otherwise be discarded in landfills. In a process similar to the production of recycled paper, the leather is bound together using natural rubber and Acacia tree sap. Tiles are hand-stitched in the United States by Amish artisans, then finished with the EasyContact™ adhesion system. The resulting tiles offer the look and feel of genuine leather at a fraction of the cost while also providing peace of mind with regards to installation, maintenance and performance.

“With the addition of EcoDomo leather tiles, Independence Station will join the ranks of buildings like the San Diego airport, the MGM Monte Carlo, and the lobby of One Bryant Park in Times Square, NYC, which is the tallest LEED Platinum building ever built,” said Christian Nadeau, President of EcoDomo LLC.

About the World’s Greenest Building:

Independence Station – The World’s Greenest Building, an Aldeia, LLC community, is on track to earn the world’s highest LEED rating when it is completed in 2010. Located in the historic pioneer town of Independence, OR, the building will obtain its energy primarily from the sun and vegetable oil with leftover energy going to the local utility to show how the new Smart Grid technologies can help solve National Energy Security challenges. A $15 million, 57,000-square-foot project, Independence Station will host real and virtual offices, residential units, a restaurant, an Internet café, a green data storage facility, research facilities and classroom space. In addition, vacationers and residents will enjoy and learn about sustainable practices in the building’s one- and two-bedroom condominiums, with the goal of living well on just 17% of the total lifestyle energy that the average American now consumes. This collected data will be published on an open source basis for all to study to set new benchmarks for responsible energy consumption in daily living.
