)-- Lisa Valentino, executive director of Me Fine Foundation, Inc. (www.mefinefoundation.org), has announced that Sept. 1, 2009 marked the organization’s fifth year anniversary of assisting families worldwide. Me Fine provides financial assistance to families that are sacrificing their livelihoods in order to provide their children with state-of-the-art, or even last-chance medical treatment at Duke and UNC Children’s Hospitals.
Since 2004, Me Fine has provided financial assistance to more than 450 families. The organization has received about $500,000 in monetary donations with $450,000 going toward the assistance of families. Additionally, the organization has received $250,000 in donated goods or services such as Christmas gifts, diapers, plane tickets, gas money and food. All donations are used to aid the families and caretakers of children being treated for various illnesses, regardless of diagnosis, to ease the financial burden that medical expenses place on caregivers.
