Canberra Institute of Technology Select EQUELLA to Power New Integrated Elearning Solution

Hobart, Australia, September 29, 2009 --( The Learning Edge International (TLEI) today announces that Canberra Institute of Technology have selected leading Digital Repository EQUELLA, as an integral component of eLearn, their new eLearning solution designed to enhance institutional Teaching and Learning capabilities.

Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is the ACT and region’s leading training organisation providing career opportunities and partnering with industry and individuals to develop a skilled community. eLearn will enable students, staff and other CIT users to access all educational services and systems across all CIT campuses, at their workplaces, through public internet access points, and in their homes. The integrated eLearn solution will also provide the backbone for CIT’s future endeavours in flexible and accessible learning and teaching, in an increasingly networked global world.

CIT’s vision for eLearn is a single seamless solution, rather than a collection of disparate software products. eLearn incorporates EQUELLA as the central content repository, Moodle as the learning environment, and Wimba for the Virtual Collaboration tool.

CIT and TLEI are working closely with long-term EQUELLA partner NetSpot, which is also a Moodle and Wimba certified provider, to ensure a seamless rollout of the three systems. This is reflected in the unified content conversion strategy, training plan, and change management plan. Reflecting eLearn’s scope and impact across the entire Institute, the project is jointly managed by the Centre for Education Excellence and the Learning Centre.

Central to CIT’s approach is providing a robust teaching and learning environment while minimising the impact on busy teaching staff. To ease the transition to eLearn the team has developed tools that migrate content from the legacy WebCT system into EQUELLA for use inside the Moodle courses.

“The vision for eLearn is a seamless, forward-looking environment that builds on the Institute’s strong educational track record as the ACT Large Training Provider of the Year. eLearn enables greater collaboration within and between our Centres, and ultimately benefits both the students and instructors ,” said Dr. Colin Adrian, Chief Executive, Canberra Institute of Technology. The Learning Edge International and NetSpot have partnered with CIT to turn this vision into reality.

Institutions such as CIT have demonstrated the critical nature of effective content management and delivery to their educational mission. By so doing, they are positioning the deployment for success through effective communication, executive support, appropriate resourcing, and clear checkpoints.

“Institutions that consider and position their digital repository in the overall institutional context tend to have success on a larger scale,” said Dan McFadyen, General Manager Professional Services, The Learning Edge International. “CIT have recognised that EQUELLA can be used effectively in conjunction with the Moodle Learning Management System and other tools to enable a coordinated rollout and more effective change management.”

CIT plan to continue its collaborative approach in implementing an effective eLearning solution, which has already incorporated ongoing discussions with other EQUELLA User Community members.

“CIT’s decision to implement EQUELLA at the core of eLearn reinforces our Content as a Platform philosophy,” said Bob Cupitt, Chief Executive Officer, The Learning Edge International. “We welcome their ongoing contribution to the EQUELLA User Community.”
