Pleasure Island Scores with Two Athletic Events During Shrimp Festival Weekend

During Shrimp Festival weekend (Oct 8-11), the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach community will welcome the USSSA Gulf Coast Baseball Championships and the 2009 Shrimp Festival Volleyball Invitational.

Gulf Shores, AL, October 02, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Not missing a single play, the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission continues its full fall line-up of athletic events on Pleasure Island as they prepare to welcome two action-filled events during Shrimp Festival weekend.

Serving up a great time, approximately 30 teams will converge on the area for the 2009 Shrimp Festival Volleyball Invitational. Play begins at 2:00 on Friday afternoon and concludes on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Matches will be held at the Gulf Shores High and Middle Schools, Foley High School, the Bodenhamer Center in Gulf Shores and the Orange Beach Recreation Center.

Meanwhile, the area will also welcome the USSSA Gulf Coast Baseball Championship, which is set for Saturday and Sunday. These youth traveled from throughout the Southeast to participate in this tournament at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. Play will begin each day at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude around 5:00 p.m. Admission is $6.00 per day or $10.00 for a weekend pass.

The Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission will welcome these upcoming events: IFA Redfish Tour Gulf Division Fishing Tournament (October 17), USTA Southern Combo Doubles Senior/Super Senior (October 22-25), SEC Women’s Soccer Championship (November 4-8), IFA Redfish Tour Championship (November 4-6) and the USTA Southern Combo Doubles Adult Championship (November 5-8).
