Dataline’s First UK Gupta Migration Seminar is a Resounding Success

This free event provided essential information for business owners, developers and IT professionals considering upgrading their legacy Unify/Gupta/Centura SqlWindows and Team Developer applications to Microsoft .NET or moving their SQLBase databases to popular platforms like Sql Server or Oracle.

Brighton, United Kingdom, October 16, 2009 --(PR.com)-- It is no secret that many organisations still running on the Gupta platform would like to modernise their existing applications by migrating to the .NET environment. Little surprise then that Dataline’s recent migration seminar was so well attended.

Representatives from organisations of all kinds, from large financial sector corporates and public sector organisations to small ISVs, gathered at Arundel House, London to hear about The Porting Project. This international network of migration engineers offers a combination of Ice Tea Group’s proven technology and a tried and tested migration process designed to transform legacy Gupta applications. The process produces modern, up to date software solutions ready to embrace a new lease of life, preserving the original investment while inheriting the capacity to adapt to future requirements and potentially, different architectures.

Those attending heard from Dataline’s Adrian Bleach and John Cuthbert on how to benefit from an excellent ROI based on fixed cost migration projects and the elimination of expensive annual license fees. The cost of migrating to .NET with The Porting Project is a small fraction of the cost of being left behind or having to rewrite your software from scratch. Organisations invest a lot of time, money and effort to code business rules, logic, and subject matter expertise into complex programming structures. If it does the job it was designed for, why put an expiration date on a valuable asset? By migrating to .NET using the Ice Porter automated solution and Dataline’s porting methodology, an organisation can preserve and extend the value of its software application for years to come.

Ice Tea Group’s Gianluca Pivato and Thomas Althammer provided an update on the new release of the PPJ framework, the concise C#.NET class library which underpins and adds great value to migrated solutions by integrating many new and useful components not available to the Gupta developer. They went on to unveil their PPJ roadmap towards n-tier architecture and the web, opening up exciting possibilities of evolving migrated applications to SOA and delivery via Ajax and Silverlight.

Microsoft architect evangelist Mark Bloodworth presented an overview of the .NET framework, highlighting a number of amazing example applications using the latest technologies, including Silverlight and Deep Zoom technology, to show what is possible for applications migrated to a modern development environment.

The authoritative voice of customer experience was provided by Datix CEO, Jonathan Hazan, who gave a fascinating insight into the history of the Datix Healthcare Risk Management development and their experience of being on the receiving end of the migration process. It was clear from Jonathan’s perspective that there was no looking back now as the company eagerly anticipated the evolution of their newly migrated solution using the panoply of tools and technologies now available to them.
