Research Shows Impact of Employee Knowledge on Office Discomfort

Grand Haven, MI, September 28, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Innovative high-tech furniture can be a start in reducing employee discomfort. However, as a nine-month study by Atlas Ergonomics documents, merely having the right furniture is not enough. Knowledge is a key component in enhancing worker health and safety.

When 1008 office employees were trained in how to use ergonomic chairs, other furniture and accessories, there were distinct, lasting reductions in work-related discomfort. Results are detailed in a new white paper, “Product Knowledge and the Effect on Reducing Office Employee Discomfort”.

The study followed employees in companies of various sizes. All subjects had high-quality ergonomics furniture from some of the nation’s most highly respected manufacturers. Yet 69% were reporting significant discomfort. And few understood even basic features of their adjustable chairs and other ergonomic products.

After furniture was to fit the individuals, and they were trained on how and why to adjust and maintain settings, reported discomfort decreased by 43%. Further, the severity of discomfort was cut by 60%. As employee knowledge increased, discomfort continued to decline.
