Urban Igloo Drives Home Its Message with Clever Advertising Campaign

Washington, DC, October 29, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Urban Igloo, the Washington, D.C. area’s premiere apartment-finder service, is spreading the word about its unique business model in a unique way.

The D.C.-based company has launched a new advertising campaign to build awareness for its service, which quickly gets renters into properties and helps landlord fills vacancies fast.

In addition to relying on more traditional print media outlets such as the Current Newspapers, the Washington Blade, and the Washington City Paper, Urban Igloo is employing a mobile strategy where its ads are displayed on trucks throughout the D.C. region.

Created by Washington-based based Delucchi+, Urban Igloo’s ad campaign features a penguin, the Urban Igloo logo and slogans such as “Find a cool home to rent. Fast.”; “Hey landlords, we’ll get you cool renters. Fast.”; and “Need to rent your condo? Chill.”

“It’s a crisp message that ties in well with our company’s name and breaks through the clutter,” says Debbie Kaplan, Urban Igloo’s director of marketing, who also serves on the board of directors for the Ad Club of Metropolitan Washington. “We want to make sure that we’re at the top of peoples’ minds when landlords are looking for renters and renters are looking for a place to live.”

Christine L. Delucchi, president and CEO of Delucchi+, says her firm created the penguin because it “provides a distinctive and memorable ‘mascot’ consumers can identify with. The character becomes a wise, witty and trusted resource for renters and landlords alike.”

Mobile billboard trucks are driving Urban Igloo’s ads around the D.C. area, targeting high-traffic locations during the week and on the weekends.

“This form of advertising gets in front of people where they live, work and play,” says Mason Harris, owner and president of Gaithersburg-based Hutzpah Media, which operates the trucks. “The message moves to where the customers are.”

The buzz surrounding Urban Igloo has steadily grown since its recent launch, as people see the company’s ad campaign, use its service, and realize the remarkable benefits.

Urban Igloo’s service is simple: Landlords post their apartments and condos on the company’s web site for free. Posting is non-exclusive, which means landlords can still try to find renters on their own.

Apartment, condo and homeowners only pay Urban Igloo when leases are signed with renters brought in by the company. The service is free to renters, and Urban Igloo’s experienced agents identify properties that meet renters’ needs, take them on personal tours of the properties, and then process the paperwork to quickly and efficiently get them into apartments and condos.

A big component of Urban Igloo’s business is online, so the company has aggressively relied on search engine optimization and online marketing to complement its outdoor and print advertising efforts.

Urban Igloo is offering a comprehensive service not found elsewhere in the Washington region – at a time when the rental market continues to struggle.

“We’re reducing the amount of revenue lost by landlords who have properties sitting vacant and saving renters time and hassle,” says Rick Gersten, Urban Igloo’s founder and managing partner. “Our approach resonates with both landlords and renters, and our new ad campaign delivers that message in an effective and memorable way.”
