Hackney was offered a full-time position at the firm following her internship, when, in addition to her duties as an intern associate, she had the opportunity to shadow DiLeone and other firm attorneys in their work at the firm.
Hackney received her juris doctor, summa cum laude, from North Carolina Central University School of Law where she was in the top three percent of her class. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in English and Radio, Television and Motion Pictures. Prior to attending law school, Hackney worked in radio and advertising. She actively participated in activities including Law Review, Public Interest Law Organization, Trial Advocacy Board and Women’s Law Caucus. She also spent a summer in the North Carolina Supreme Court clerk’s office on a project preparing the judicial system of North Carolina for continuity of operations during a pandemic influenza outbreak.
