Women Who Are Changing the Face of the Construction Industry in This Month’s Construction Digital Magazine

Plus, Dick Green of Independent Explosives Engineers, Paula Al Chami of The Big 5 Exposition in Dubai and more in the November issue of Construction Digital

Carlsbad, CA, November 05, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Some of the biggest players in the construction industry are women and despite deep-seated stereotypes, they are running highly successful construction companies that supersede many of their male counterparts. Sure, they’re outnumbered 10 to 1, but the leading women featured in this month’s Construction Digital magazine, found on ConstructionDigital.com (www.constructiondigital.com), are anything but overpowered. In fact, armed with expertise and confidence, they are determined to overcome obstacles and pave the way for a future where women are recognized fixtures in the construction industry.

Dick Green of Independent Explosives Engineers Ltd. gives readers a window into the world of demolition. Although it was a natural step for Green to leave his 25 years of military explosives and safety training behind to move into civilian explosives, there is still a big divide between the two jobs. “In the military you blow things up to cause obstructions, spreading the debris as far as possible. In civilian demolition, however, we blow buildings down within confined areas whilst maximizing fragmentation.”

Green’s work has taken him all over the world, from India to Korea to the UAE. He was even part of the team that helped plan and supervise the demolition of the bridge in Saudi Arabia used annually by six million Muslims during the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. Because Green and his team are not Muslim, this made for a difficult job as they were not permitted to go within 15km of the bridge, which is considered a sacred site.
