Clarke County, Georgia, Achieves 12.8% CRCT Gains in Five Weeks

Portland, ME, November 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Clarke County, Georgia, saw a 12.8% rise in 8th grade state test results after using a new mathematics program from Walch Education this past summer.

Originally developed in partnership with Cobb County, Georgia Academic Support Program Comprehensive Mathematics, Grade 8, (Georgia Math) is a complete teacher toolkit that prepares students for the critical mathematics tested by the CRCT. Tightly aligned to Georgia Performance Standards, it includes more than 100 hours of instruction. The entire program is packaged in an easy-to-use 3-ring binder, with every lesson completely reproducible. An accompanying CD-ROM contains the entire program in a fully searchable PDF.

According to Clarke County School District Mathematics Coach Glenda Huff, “The 8th grade teachers loved the resource. The planning time was cut in half for a summer program that was packed with content.” Just as significantly, students using Georgia Math saw their test scores rise 12.8%, from pre-test to post-test.

Each unit in Georgia Math includes warm-up activities; direct instruction; practice; hands-on station activities; and multiple choice practice. The program also includes correlations to Georgia Performance Standards, a collection of graphic organizers, and pre- and post-assessments that inform instruction and document student achievement.

Georgia Academic Support Program Comprehensive Mathematics, Grade 8, is one of many standards-based programs in mathematics, English/language arts, and science developed by Walch Education in partnership with Georgia districts.
