Capital District Local First’s Buy Local Bash 2009

Albany, NY, November 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- To offer locally based alternatives to big-box Holiday shopping, Capital District Local first, will hold it’s annual Buy Local Bash on Versio November 21st, 2009 from 5-9pm at the Troy Atrium 297 River Street, Troy.

This is the third annual Buy Local Bash held by the group. Last years’ event drew over 300 attendees and 50 vendors and included local music and a presentation by BALLE (Business Alliance for Local Living Economies) Co-founder Laury Hammel. The event gives independentlyowned businesses from Albany, Rensselear, Schenectady, and Saratoga counties an opportunity to showcase their products and services to the public

“It’s incredibly important for the public understand the power that spending some of their holiday dollars at local independent businesses can have in the regional economy,” said Susan Taylor, Chair of Capital District Local First. “By supporting locally-owned independent businesses, more money stays in the region.”

The group is participating in “America Unchained Day”, a national event started in Austin, Texas. On this day communities nationwide encourage citizens to do all their shopping and dining with locally owned businesses to keep more money in their local economies. If citizens of all four counties of the Capital Region spent all their dollars locally on November 21st, it would keep $5,000,000 in the community, versus shopping at chains.

This years Buy Local Bash features a vendor fair of businesses from all four counties of the region. Vendor businesses include restaurants, food producers, pottery, jewelry clothing, health services and more.

Live music for the event will be provided by North Country acoustic duo Eddy and Kim Lawrence. Eddy’s songs and recordings have garnered critical praise in many publications, including Dirty Linen, Acoustic Guitar, The Village Voice, CMJ, Folk-Roots, Performing Songwriter, New Country, and Sing Out!

Tickets to the event will be available to the public for a $10 suggested donation and vendor space for the event can be reserved by members for only $25. New members will receive a complimentary vendor space.
