The UOC - Open University of Catalonia - The Global Online University - IN3-HAROSA Workshop First Edition, an International Forum on Collaborative Research

The UOC's research institute, the IN3, is organising the first edition of the "Hybrid Algorithms for solving Realistic rOuting, Scheduling and reliability/Availability problems" (HAROSA) Workshop, a forum about online, distributed and collaborative research in the fields of computation and operational research.

Barcelona, Spain, November 18, 2009 --(PR.com)-- This year, the central theme of the conference is "HAROSA: a knowledge community for online, distributed and collaborative research." The forum took place on 9, 10 and 11 November, at the IN3 building (Av. del Canal Olímpic, s/n, Castelldefels), from 9.30 am to 5 pm.

The HAROSA workshop was an open and international forum devoted to fostering collaborative research in the fields of interest of the HAROSA Knowledge Community (HAROSA KC), such as: vehicle routing, distributed and collaborative systems, scheduling, reliability and availability of systems, etc. At this first edition, each HAROSA KC group was presented and each will provide an overview of their research work and projects.

The Workshop also promoted the exchange of ideas and proposals for collaboration among KC researchers, as well as specific contributions from each group to this community’s work packages (e.g. proposals for joint projects, co-management of PhDs, development of joint articles, sharing computational resources, exchange programmes for lecturers and/or students at the participating institutions, etc.)

The HAROSA Knowledge Community
The HAROSA Knowledge Community (HAROSA KC) is an international network of research groups whose main aim is to promote online collaborative research in the development of hybrid algorithms and support software for decision-making processes in the industrial and service sectors.

The IN3’s Distributed, Parallel and Collaborative Systems (DPCS) research group coordinates this community.
