Portland, OR, November 29, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Downsize, simplify and become a part of a progressive lively cooperative community. Learn about how an active and committed group of Portland residents are developing an age 55+ housing cooperative. Come find out about the genesis of this project and how it is entirely different than anything else out there.

There is free seminar on December 6th from 3-5pm at 909 NW 19th Avenue, with a special guest panel. Learn about tax benefits and investment security in cooperative living, and how this is different than a condo and other retirement communities.

Guest #1 – John Sweeney is joined by his wife, Virginia from The Applewood Pointe of Roseville Cooperative one of 78 Senior Cooperative housing communities in Minnesota. John and Virginia became involved in their co-op when it was still in its planning stages and have lived at Applewood Pointe since construction completed in 2004. John currently serves on the Board of his 94-unit cooperative as Treasurer. Prior to retiring and moving to Applewood Pointe, John ran a John Deere dealership in Isanti, MN. Both John and Virginia are passionate about their co-op lifestyle and about the lasting friendships and community they have established in a very short time.

Guest #2 – Dina Alexander is an attorney and partner at Ball Janik LLP, where she works in the real estate and construction practice groups. Her principal area of practice is mixed-use development, with an emphasis on entity structuring, project finance, acquisitions and dispositions. Dina has been providing legal support to The Sheldon Cooperative since it’s inception.

Guest #3 – Tom Peters, Senior Vice-President, CW Capital. Tom Peters has been working with HUD lending programs since 1972 and is a nationally recognized expert in HUD insured loans. Tom’s firm, CW Capital has originated and closed approximately 70% of the lending volume out of the Seattle and Portland HUD Offices. Tom has been working with The Sheldon to provide financing for the project.

Guest #4 - Mark Schulz (Participation Tentative) – Administrator, Marquis At Home. An Oregon based family run company, Marquis At Home provides care including assistance with daily living and skilled nursing to individuals in their homes throughout Oregon.
