Hundreds of Children Line Up to Become Drug-Free Marshals

Parents thank Church of Scientology for helping to educate their children about the harmful effect of drugs.

Los Angeles, CA, November 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Drug-Free Marshals of the Church of Scientology Los Angeles pledged over 200 children to lead drug-free lives at a Los Angeles block party, but it was the parents who stepped up to receive the free Truth About Drugs booklets, which are provided by the Foundation for a Drug-Free World that provide current facts from surveys and studies on the most commonly abused drugs: alcohol, marijuana, inhalants, ecstasy, cocaine and crack cocaine, Ritalin and oxycodone (painkillers), methamphetamine, heroin and LSD.

“These booklets are vital to educate our children because if we don’t educate them with the truth you can bet that the drug dealers are working at selling our kids their lies every day in schools, parks, our communities,” said Edie Reuveni, President of the Church of Scientology Los Angeles. “Humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard said, ‘Save the child and you save the nation’. These booklets help parents talk to their children about drug prevention before it’s too late and the statistics show that:

· Nearly ½ of all public school children in the United States have tried drugs or alcohol by the time they are 13 years old;
· A third of teens have attended house parties where there was alcohol, pot, cocaine, ecstasy or prescription drugs;
· Over half of youth surveyed say it would be easy for them to get pot if they wanted some;
· Seven out of 10 teenagers have been offered an illegal drug.”

“Thank you for being here and helping our community rid itself from the horrors of drugs,” said one mother. While others proudly stood by as their children became Drug-Free Marshals and hoping a promise and some education will help them survive in the future.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Los Angeles and provides free drug-education materials in dozens of languages across 125 countries, including a newly released documentary, The Truth About Drugs: Real People, Real Stories. It is sponsored by the Church of Scientology International, which has been using the Truth About Drugs education booklets in its secular community drug prevention activities for more than 20 years.
