Thanksgiving Just Got a Little Healthier

Nourishing USA fed over 1000 people healthy meals this Thanksgiving

New York, NY, November 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- In an area where obesity and diabetes are chronic problems for over sixty-two percent of the people Nourishing USA feed over 1000 individuals, healthy meals in their space that only fits 11 people at a time. Over Thanksgiving Nourishing USA distributed healthy pantry bags to 856 low-income individuals—of which over half are under 18 or over 65 and almost one-third are afflicted with diabetes. In addition to the pantry bags, 178 individuals came for hot meals. All of this is made possible by the generosity of New Yorkers.

While eating one of the mothers said, “I’ve heard a lot about the Nourishing USA and it was even better than I heard.” Many of the clients coming in for the hot meals were families with several children and are just not able to make ends meet this holiday. “I had to sit down, we were cutting, chopping, cooking and serving, I’m exhausted—but it was so worth it,” commented one of the volunteers.

“We did it, we served over 1000 people this Thanksgiving,” said Director Gina Keatley after a day of cooking and keeping volunteers going in the USA. “But there is no time to rest, there are many more out there that need the services we are offering, we need to get them in as soon as we can.”

Every week Nourishing USA opens its doors to families and individuals that may not be able to have a meal on their own but also have classes on nutrition and the culinary arts for children, teens and seniors.
