Harps for the Holidays

During this holiday season Angel Harps is encouraging people to consider making the lives of special needs children better through donations or volunteer work.

Chula Vista, CA, December 15, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Harp strings are pulling on heart strings throughout San Diego County as special needs children benefit from the healing harp music therapy provided through a non-profit group known as Angel Harps.

Founded in 2003, Angel Harps is a 501.C3 non-profit organization whose proceeds go to provide healing harps for children with disabilities.

Started on a shoe-string, and catalyzed by Woodley’s own personal healing journey, today Angel harps has changed the lives of hundreds of children with disabilities by providing them with harps to assist in their healing process.

During the holiday season angels and harps are popular--but harp music is always magical no matter what time of year. Harp music therapy is being used more frequently throughout the year in integrative medicine because it has been found to benefit those who play the instrument or who listen to the unique melodies.

Harps are related to the Psalter, a musical instrument from prehistory. In fact, the Old Testament Psalms got their name because they were always presented and accompanied by the music of the Psalter.

Today harp music therapy is getting more attention and the Angel Harps mission is to provide physically and emotionally challenged individuals with the opportunity to heal through just such therapy.

Earlier this year Angel Harps awarded two harps to the Special Education Program at Chula Vista High School and the Chula Vista School for Creative & Performing Arts (and Mariachi Chula Vista). This is the first year the organization donated more than one harp.

During this holiday season the group is encouraging people to consider making the lives of special needs children better through donations or volunteer work. (Harps for the Holidays is a new gift giving option for Angel Harps this year.)
