CICOA Receives Grant to Provide Public Education on Medicare Issues

CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions will use a grant from Universal American to provide information and assistance to Medicare recipients across Central Indiana.

Indianapolis, IN, December 20, 2009 --(PR.com)-- CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions recently received a $15,000 grant from Universal American to provide public education to consumers across central Indiana about Medicare issues. CICOA will use the grant to provide information and assistance to Medicare recipients, family members and caregivers about Medicare Supplement Insurance, Medicare Health Plans, Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, Low-income Subsidies, and Medicare fraud issues.

In addition to preparing and delivering four formal presentations, CICOA will provide assistance to 200 to 400 individuals calling the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) to speak with staff State Health Insurance Assistance (SHIP) counselors. CICOA also will conduct 50 to 100 face-to-face counseling sessions and will process 50 or more enrollments or eligibility determinations for Low Income Subsidies and claims appeals. Finally, CICOA will produce and distribute10,000 informational fliers about Medicare’s Low Income Subsidy Programs.

CICOA sought private philanthropic funding of these services to fill the gap caused by shrinking federal and state funding. Universal American offers Medicare Advantage plans and other products.
