Students from the barbering program at Atlanta Technical College (ATC) provided complimentary holiday grooming services to patients at the Crestview Rehabilitation Center.

Atlanta, GA, December 24, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Atlanta Technical College Students Provide Barbering Services at Rehabilitation Center

As part of an ongoing volunteer partnership with the Crestview Rehabilitation Center, students from the barbering program at Atlanta Technical College (ATC) provided complimentary haircuts and shaves to patients at the center. With 18 students and two instructors participating in the one-day event, more than 75 patients received new looks for the holidays.

As part of the partnership, ATC students visit the center twice a year – over the Thanksgiving/Christmas Holiday and during National Nursing Home Care Week, which is in mid-May.

“The program presents a wonderful opportunity for ATC students to not only work on their craft, but also serve residents of the Atlanta community,” shared James Harris, Department Chair of the barbering program at Atlanta Technical College. “Many of the patients and facilitators at the rehabilitation center expressed their gratitude for the grooming services and are already looking forward to the next event in May.”

Barbering is a flourishing career option for both men and women. ATC offers a diploma program that includes a sequence of courses that prepare students for careers in the field of barbering. The program emphasizes specialized training in hair and scalp conditions, equipment safety, skin care, and business management. Program graduates receive a barbering diploma and are eligible for employment as barbers, shop managers or business owner. Additionally, students can go on to test for the state’s Master Barber license exam.
